Prerequisite: RECOVER CPR: BLS & ALS Certifications
You must register, pay for & complete the following two online courses on your own, prior to attending the lab. 
You MUST e-mail your completion certificates to info@easav.ca before the event.
The BLS and ALS courses are RACE approved for 3 hours of CPD credit each.
The lab portion is RACE approved for 6 hours of CPD credit.

Individuals that have completed the online Basic and/or Advanced Life Support RECOVER courses have the option of obtaining certification as RECOVER Certified Rescuers in Basic and Advanced Life Support.

Rescuer Certification Workshops are conducted by Certified Instructors at conferences and regional events. Basic (BLS) and Advanced (ALS) workshops will be held on the same day to allow individuals to become BLS & ALS certified.

Rescuer Certification Workshop in Basic Life Support (BLS)
The in-person RECOVER Certification workshop in BLS is a hands-on workshop held by a RECOVER Certified BLS Instructor® composed of a review of key concepts and practical training using simulated scenarios of performing BLS. The training is approximately 1.5-2 hours long with a practical assessment the participants must pass in order to obtain certification as a RECOVER Certified BLS Rescuer®.

Learning Objectives

1.      Rapidly recognize patients with cardiopulmonary arrest

2.      Properly administer high-quality chest compressions using the most up-to-date approaches in dogs and cats

3.      Provide mouth-to-snout or intubated ventilation according to current evidence-based guidelines

4.      Utilize effective communication and team skills that will improve your ability to manage emergent and critically ill patients

Rescuer Certification Workshop in Advanced Life Support (ALS)
The in-person RECOVER Certification workshop in ALS is a hands-on workshop held by a RECOVER Certified ALS Instructor® composed of a review of key concepts and practical training using simulated scenarios of performing ALS. The simulation is conducted with veterinary specific simulation software coupled with a high fidelity simulator or static mannequin. The training is approximately 4-5 hours long with a practical assessment the participants must pass in order to obtain certification as a RECOVER Certified ALS Rescuer®.

Learning Objectives

1.      Utilize effective communication and team skills that will improve your ability to manage emergent and critically ill patients

2.      Choose the most useful monitoring devices for patients in cardiopulmonary arrest and interpret data from them

3.      Rapidly diagnose the arrest ECG rhythm to determine the best ALS therapies for the patient

4.      Administer the most effective drugs and other adjunctive therapies for patients with cardiopulmonary arrest

Dr. Teresa Bousquet Bio
Dr. Bousquet attended the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) at the University of Saskatchewan. While she was there, she did everything “exotic” that she could – being a member of the Wild and Exotic Animal Medicine Society (WEAMS), taking multiple rotations with the Zoo/Exotics/Wildlife Service, an externship at the Calgary Avian and Exotic Pet Clinic, as well as rotations in Laboratory Animal Medicine and Game Ranching. After graduating in 2007, she moved to Edmonton to pursue her career in small and exotic animal medicine.
Dr. Bousquet has served a number of years on the Board of Directors of the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians (AEMV), as a Member at Large, and Chair of a number of committees. It was her honour to serve as President of AEMV in 2020-2021. She is also a member of the American Association of Fish Veterinarians (AAFV), and the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians (ARAV). She has a deep passion for exotic animal medicine.
Dr. Bousquet has published academic journal articles about exotic companion mammals. In 2024, she became a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) in Exotics Companion Mammal Practice.

Dr. Margaret Doyle Bio
Dr. Margaret Doyle is a dedicated and compassionate veterinarian with over a decade of experience. She earned her veterinary degree from University College Dublin in 2009 and later specialized in Veterinary Forensics with a Master’s degree from the University of Florida in 2015.
As a co-owner of Horizon Veterinary Group, Dr. Doyle has been providing expert care at Riverbend Animal Clinic since 2012. She focuses on small animal medicine, with a special interest in ultrasonography, dentistry, and both routine and emergency care.
Dr. Doyle is passionate about sharing her knowledge, serving as a clinical instructor at the University of Calgary and mentoring the next generation of veterinarians. This dedication earned Horizon Veterinary Group the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association's prestigious Mentorship Award in 2021.
In addition to her work in the clinic, Dr. Doyle is deeply involved in improving animal welfare. She serves in leadership roles with the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association and several international organizations focused on veterinary forensics and animal welfare. In 2022, she was honored by being inducted into the University College Dublin Veterinary College Alumni Hall of Fame for her contributions.
Dr. Doyle is also a strong advocate for the human-animal bond and works to raise awareness about the connection between animal abuse and human violence. She is an active member of the Canadian Violence Link Coalition and has trained front-line officers, veterinarians, social workers, and prosecutors. Her work in this area has even helped shape legislation and earned her a community policing award.
At home, Dr. Doyle enjoys life on her farm, where she cares for her own beloved animals, including 4 horses, a cow, a terrier named Zuzu, a cat named Oliver, and her cat Angus, an abuse survivor who has become a social media star with his own line of cat clothing!
